The University of Plymouth is a public university that was established in 1862 as a polytechnic institute. The institute gained the status of a university in 1992 and is also the first contemporary university to start a private medical and dental school. It is affiliated to ACU, EUA, CHUC and Universities UK.



Every year, nearly 4,500 students benefit from Plymouth’s work-based learning and placement opportunities. Plymouth’s growing global presence places it amongst the top universities for Transnational Education. It has won the prestigious Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher Education three times.


The university’s high-quality interdisciplinary research caters to national, international and regional needs. It has received the European Commission HR Excellence in Research Award, for its commitment to the career development of its researchers. The university first received the award in 2011 and has retained it for a third time in 2017.

Plymouth offers the fourth best contact hours of all UK universities, with 34 per cent of time spent in lectures or seminars on the average course. Over 4,500 students benefit from placements and work-based learning each year, as well as research led teaching. The university also offers 'Plymouth Plus' modules in the first year which allow students to work across subjects, broadening their skills-base and enabling them to work collaboratively with students from other subjects.


Services for International Students

Plymouth is a home away from home for our international students and we are here to support you every step of the way. Within student services you can access help and advice from the International Advice Team, find out more about your visa from the UKVI compliance team or improve your English language skills at the English Language Centre.


The International Student Advice Service run orientation programmes at the beginning of the year as well as a meet and greet service from Heathrow Airport. Orientation covers the campus and departments as well as general information about the area and British culture. The School of Tourism runs a weekly Languages Café, where students can meet in an informal setting to talk with native speakers of different languages.

Entry requirements for Indian Students:


Undergraduate entry requirement:


We require applicants to have completed the High School Certificate (year 12) or the Indian School Certificate (year 12) or the All India Senior School Certificate Examination (known as the Delhi Indian School Certificate Examination Year 12) with at least 60% or above. Please note that entry requirements may vary.


For applicants who do not meet the above requirements, there are foundation options available via the University of Plymouth and University of Plymouth International College (UPIC).



Postgraduate entry requirement:


We require applicants to have completed a bachelor degree or a bachelor of technology degree from a recognised Indian institution with the following degree classification:

Students who meet the following English proficiency scores will enter their academic degree program:

  • TOEFL score (minimum paper score=530; online score=71),

  • IELTS score (minimum score=6.0 with no band less than 6.0),

  • PTE Academic score (minimum score of 52).

  • Duolingo English Test results with a minimum of 95

Accommodation:


All new undergraduates are guaranteed a place in University accommodation for their first year of study. There are six halls available on campus with a further six off campus. Most rooms are en suite, and are in flats of between 3 and 11 people with a shared kitchen. Many halls also have studio apartments available, and all are either in or within walking distance of the main campus and the city centre.
